. . . the Summit County DD Board takes great care in ensuring that we can safely transport people to their programs. Sometime it is determined that the roads can not be safely traveled by our bus fleet. Three major factors are considered prior to canceling transportation services. These factors include road conditions (main and side streets), temperature and/or wind chill. Other considerations include the closing of nearby school systems and the weather forecast for the entire day including the forecasted conditions at the time of afternoon transportation home. If pockets of the county are bad then we rely on each driver and manager to determine if a route can be traveled safely.
Unless there is a Road Emergency determined by the Sheriff’s Department that requires all cars to stay off of the road we are open. Staff report to work or take approved leave and persons served may come to work by other means.
We are very aware that other county employees continue to work in bad weather and so use the Sheriff’s Department Emergency standard to close all programs which is the same standard for other county workers not essential personnel.
The broadcasting stations that we use to communicate with persons served are the following:
TV Channels 3, 5, 8, 19
Radio Stations
WTAM WTOU WCRF SCLV WCPN
WAKS WGAR WHLO WKDD WKYC
WMJI WMMS WVIZ
