Employee Development Services – Job Exploration Training (JET) Program Fact Sheet
Population Served
Services are provided to individuals who have been found eligible to receive Adult Services through the Summit DD Board and have a desire to work in the community.
Settings
Services are provided in a community-based setting. Individuals work in small groups in area businesses with a staff person on-site.
Hours of Services
Services are typically provided between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The hours are based upon the needs of the employer.
Days of Services
Services are typically provided daily Monday through Friday. There may be occasional work opportunities on the weekends.

Payer Sources
Services are funded through a combination of funding sources including Federal, State and Local Levy dollars.
Fees
There are no out-of-pocket fees to participate in the JET program.
Referral Sources
Anyone can make a referral for Summit DD Services by contacting the Intake Department. Once an individual is eligible for services, a Service and Support Administration Coordinator assists with locating specific services.
Specific Services Offered
The Job Exploration Training (J.E.T.) program is a community-based training program that provides career exploration leading to supported employment. It is designed to provide real work experiences, paid or volunteer, at community job sites for individuals-served who want supported employment in the future. J.E.T. will provide job training and work skill development. J.E.T. Trainees will actively engage in career exploration. Trainees who have met their vocational training goals will be referred to Job Development as appropriate. The J.E.T. trainee must be able to safely function in the community with supervision that fades. The J.E.T. program is a time-limited service. Every six months, the trainees will move to a new work site. A trainee must complete the program in 2 years or experience a total of 4 work sites.
Transition Criteria
J.E.T. Trainees will actively engage in career exploration. Trainees who have met their vocational training goals will be referred to Job Development as appropriate.
Entry Criteria
Person Served:
1. Meets Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities Adult Services eligibility
requirements.
2. Demonstrates a desire to work in the community.
3. Must be willing to participate in community travel assessment, or other requested assessment, as needed.
4. Must meet health and safety standards for specific employment sites.
5. Must meet the attendance requirements of the J.E.T. program.
6. Able to work in the community with supervision that fades.
7. Demonstrates good social behaviors and interpersonal skills in a community setting without the need for a behavior management plan.
8. Able to care for own personal needs/administer own medication or provide an attendant.
9. Is willing to comply with community employers hiring practices and work rules.
Exit Criteria
Person-Served:
1. Is no longer eligible for Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities Adult Services.
2. Has met or exceeded the goals of the J.E.T. program.
3. No longer desires work in the community.
4. Transfers to an alternative program service.
5. Has health and safety concerns that cannot be addressed at work location.
6. Is unable to maintain entrance criteria
Including: Excessive absenteeism
Refusal to accept needed services
Lack of participation
Poses a threat to self and/or others
Expected Outcomes
After 2 years of training in the J.E.T. program, the expected outcome is for a trainee to enter supported employment services.
