A child’s path to success begins long before school starts. Often, developmental delays are not recognized until elementary school or later. For instance, if your child is not walking, talking, or meeting other developmental milestones like children their same age, or if your child has a medical condition which might be causing their development to be delayed, you may feel overwhelmed and not know where to start. Good news, Summit DD can help!

Milestones
While every child develops at his or her own pace, there are a number of milestones to look for between birth and three years old. (Click here for a listing of milestones.) Developmental milestones provide important clues about your child’s development. Fortunately, there are tools available to help you determine if your little one is meeting his or her milestones.
Help your little one become his or her best self
Thanks to Ohio Department of Children and Youth (in partnership with Summit DD), you have access one of the best developmental screening tools. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, 3rd edition, (known as the ASQ-3) to help determine if your child is meeting his or her milestones. Best of all, it’s easy to use and free for Summit County families. A Summit DD Early Intervention professional also reviews your ASQ-3 to provide you with results and recommendations – personalized to your child.
Therefore, parents are encouraged to complete a screening for their child at 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months. If your child isn’t meeting milestones or experiencing delays, Early Intervention services may be available for you through the Dept. of Children and Youth and Summit DD.
