Lucshunda’s Family: A DSP Success Story

Direct support professionals, also know as DSPs, are the backbone of the developmental disability service system. They provide essential support for people in their homes, at work, in school, and within all aspects of someone’s life.

Meet Lucshunda Blackwell. She’s a private disability provider who’s making a big impact in our community. “I wish we could clone Lucshunda,” shared Rhonda Mallard, Summit DD Service and Support Administrator (SSA). “I think her tone, loving spirit and calmness is brought to every person she serves,” Rhonda continued.

“That’s why I named my business Next to Kin Supportive Services, because I want everybody to feel like family, and I treat everybody like family,” proudly stated Lucshunda.

This year, Lucshunda was awarded Summit DD’s coveted Dottie Schrum Culture Award after being nominated by Rhonda. This award recognizes an outstanding Direct Support Professional from any organization in the developmental disabilities field, whose efforts or service has gone above and beyond to make a difference for those with developmental disabilities.

“So that’s the kind of person Lucshunda is! She goes above and beyond not only for our persons-served, but family members, and for other persons in the community. I feel blessed to know her!” Rhonda concluded.
