Sign Language Communication

Focusing on other ways of communication can also support your child’s development of early speech. This can include modeling simple sign language with words. Research supports the use of early sign language to complement communication and speech development.

Modeling a few simple signs with target words can give a child more to imitate. There are many resources with some beginning signs to introduce, but some ideas to start would be the signs for eat, more, all done, book, play, help.
