Direct support professionals, also know as DSPs, are the backbone of the developmental disability service system. They provide essential support for people in their homes, at work, in school, and within all aspects of someone’s life.
Meet Britt Ferrara. She’s a DSP who’s making a big impact in our community. “She has always been the shining star of providers in Summit County. In fact, I’m always asking her to please take more clients, but unfortunately she’s only one person,” shared Owen Stamler, Summit DD Service and Support Administrator (SSA).
In August of 2022, Britt founded Buddy Strong Academy. Buddy Strong is a non-profit organization that provides an athletic outlet for people of all abilities. “I saw a need in the community for wellness and fitness, as well as community engagement. It’s grown and it’s been amazing! It truly is so rewarding to watch them be so proud of themselves to reach something and know that I could help them reach that goal. There’s nothing, there’s no other feeling that’s better,” proudly shared Britt.
This year, Britt was awarded Summit DD’s coveted Dottie Schrum Culture Award after being nominated by Owen. This award recognizes an outstanding Direct Support Professional from any organization in the developmental disabilities field, whose efforts or service has gone above and beyond to make a difference for those with developmental disabilities.
