Elizabeth: An Artist Story

When you walk into Elizabeth’s work space, you’re met with the smell of fresh acrylic paints, a table full of creative clay critters, and a modest smirk from a talented artist. Her personality shows through every art piece, whether it’s a coy fox, a wizard owl, or a dignified bat wearing a top hat. They’re unique, charming and full of character. When asked how long it takes to make each piece, Elizabeth quietly but confidently replied “I don’t know. I just know when it’s right.” She then picked up her brush, analyzed what color to use, and began making her next piece just-right.

“She has come such a long way. Not only creatively and artistically, but socially as well. I’ve enjoyed seeing her grow so much over the years!” shared Elizabeth’s Summit DD Service and Support Administrator (SSA) Rhonda Mallard. Rhonda helps connect Elizabeth to the services and supports she needs at home, at work, or at the Silo Arts Studio that she attends four days a week. “I enjoy being there for her,” said Rhonda with a proud smile.

Since the fall of 2018, Elizabeth has honed her artistic talents at the Silo Arts Studio located in the heart of the Downtown Canton Arts District. According to the Silo website “it’s a gallery and studio space for outsider artists to express themselves and to be seen.” Elizabeth has grown from creating her critters out of pipe cleaners to learning clay sculpting and oven baking from the Silo staff.

On Friday, July 1st, Elizabeth is having her very own art show at Silo. It’s open to the public from 5:30-9PM and all of her works will be on sale. Silo is located at 431 4th St NW, Canton, OH 44702. Come out and show support for Elizabeth and her amazing work!
