In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, Summit DD teamed up with the Groovy Garfoose and We Rock the Spectrum kids gym to help families connect through music therapy.
“Families in our Early Intervention program shared that they wanted additional ways to connect with other families,” explained Kathy Supple, Assistant Director of Early Intervention at Summit DD. “So, we reached out to our community partners to create a friendly environment for kids to benefit from music therapy, while also giving parents the opportunity to connect with one another.”
Autism Acceptance Month
Each Tuesday morning throughout the month of April, eight families met at We Rock the Spectrum in Stow where, families shared a sensory experience through music therapy from the Groovy Garfoose with their little ones, ages 0-2. Summit DD Developmental Specialists were on hand to support the children and facilitate connections between families.
“Music therapy can be a great option for children with Autism to help with sensory processing. But more than that, we wanted to create a safe space for families to connect and learn from one another,” expressed Early Intervention Supervisor, Jennifer Reigle. “This environment gave parents the opportunity to get to know each other and form supportive relationships.”
“ Zeke loves music, and he has been enjoying interacting and making friends at music class.”
