Shellie’s Passion: A DSP Success Story

Direct support professionals, also know as DSPs, are the backbone of the developmental disability service system. They provide essential support for people in their homes, at work, in school, and within all aspects of someone’s life.

Meet Shellie Landry. She’s an independent provider who’s making a big impact in our community. “I started working in the field back in 2010. I had a daughter with a disability and wasn’t happy with the services she was receiving. So I decided to start providing services that get to know who people are…who they really are and not just what the paperwork says,” shared Shellie.

This year, Shellie was awarded Summit DD’s coveted Dottie Schrum Culture Award after being nominated by Summit DD Service and Support Administrator (SSA) Cody Mazanek. This award recognizes an outstanding Direct Support Professional from any organization in the developmental disabilities field, whose efforts or service has gone above and beyond to make a difference for those with developmental disabilities. “If I had to describe Shellie in one word it would be, passion. It really warms my heart to recognize and honor her,” proudly shared Cody.

“My daughter passed away in 2019 and I made it my mission to provide care for others that feels like home. Just like home,” Shellie said passionately.
