Summit County Officials Adjust Tax Collections

(Cuyahoga Falls, OH) – Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD), the Summit County Budget Commission, the Summit County Fiscal Office, the Summit County Executive’s Office and Summit County Council are taking steps to ensure tax collections align with the amount voters approved. Summit DD requested Summit County Council make an adjustment to the effective millage rate of their operating levy to uphold transparency and responsible fiscal management. County Council approved this legislation on Monday evening.

In the general election of 2023, voters approved Summit DD’s replacement levy with ballot language stating that the levy was expected to generate approximately $66 million annually and cost taxpayers $158 per $100,000 of property value. Summit DD’s levy was first payable in 2025 and is a six-year levy.  Subsequent to a reappraisal, Summit County Officials collaborated and requested that the County Budget Commission and County Council reduce the effective millage rate from 4.5 mills to 3.59 mills for the 2024 tax year (payable in 2025). This adjustment ensures collections align with voter expectations and that Summit DD collects the amount it committed to voters in 2023.

With County Council’s passage of the legislation, the second-half 2025 tax collections will be adjusted. Summit DD will continue monitoring financial projections throughout the levy cycle to maintain financial stability while meeting the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
