Join Summit DD and the Summit County Employment Collaborative for an in-depth discussion on how we can use existing policy to achieve competitive, integrated employment for people with disabilities. Facilitated by Julie J. Christensen, MSW, PhD, this session will take a deeper dive into how current policy can help create opportunity for people with disabilities. Dr. Christiansen is the Director of Policy & Advocacy and Interim Executive Director at the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE).
This session is virtual and open to job seekers, parents, providers, businesses or others who are interested in competitive, integrated employment for people with disabilities.
Topics Dr. Christiansen will cover, include:
- Community Integrated Employment (CIE): A public Policy Roadmap to Achieving Employment First.
- Existing and proposed legislation and policies, charting a course forward in 2021 and beyond.
- How can we use existing policy to achieve competitive, integrated employment for people with disabilities? In what ways does existing policy create barriers to success? And what policy changes do we need to advocate for to achieve our goals?
After the discussion with Dr. Christiansen, we invite you to hear a first-hand story from a local advocate, who used his local disability programs to gain the experience and skills to eventually find and keep part time employment in his community.
