Step into the vibrant world of Rachel, a local Akron artist who’s work is being featured at the Summit Artspace for the very first time. Her dynamic paintings feature mandalas and floral motifs, or as Rachel calls it “a celebration of life.” This exhibition also celebrates the partnership between Summit Artspace and Summit DD to help ensure artists of all abilities have the opportunity to share their work with the world.
“The partnership has been great this year. We’ve reached a whole new audience with Rachel’s show at Summit Artspace. The whole team has really gone above and beyond to help ensure that artists of all abilities have the same opportunities to have their work seen,” shared Beth Walters, Summit DD Employment Navigator. She helps local artists with disabilities create and maintain relationships with Summit County art spaces, including the Summit County Courthouse, Akron Metro, Summit Artspace, and various galleries.
“I’m talented and gifted because of my grandmother,” Rachel shared. She was very creative and that sparked the talents that Rachel has today. “Just be yourself. Be as you are. If you want to be an artist. Get a feeling before you start, then put it on canvas when you’re ready, and paint…that’s all it really is!” Rachel continued. When asked how she feels when someone buys her artwork, she exclaimed “it makes me feel great inside! I can hardly believe it. When you follow your dream, it comes true!”
Rachel’s first solo exhibition, My World in Color, will be on display at the Summit Artspace until September 17th. Visit the Summit Artspace website for the public gallery hours. You can also virtually explore Rachel’s exhibition here. The Summit Artspace also did a spotlight video featuring Rachel which can be viewed below.
